I know this has been covered quite a bit by searching, but I can't seem to find any actual writeups or directions to do it. I work p/t for the city and they have a 97 F250LD 4x4 and the heater core went south yesterday. I'm going in tomorrow and figured I'd tackle it. If anyone has a link for me or just some advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
I did email one guy from here about instructions, but the thread was old and I don't know if that will pan out or not so thought I'd see if you guys had some information for me.
Make sure to use a FORD heater core, add a restrictor if not already there. Part# f1uz-18d406-a
Also flush the green antifreeze out with water, and lots of it, and convert over to Motorcraft Premium Gold. Or Zerex G-05.
Say goodbye to future failures.........
Buy a heater core at the regular part store and expect a failure in 1-2 yrs. Decide to use prestone all makes and models coolant becuase its easy to get, and you will be reliving all of the nightmares the chevy people did because it is dexcool with green dye.
Well, the guy I emailed sent me the directions. Wow, little more than i expected. I can do mine in my 97 real easy. Not the same with this new body style. It looks like its more like my 02 taurus core. I had to pull the dash back on the passengers side to get it out too.
I'm as ford as it gets, but there are at least a few dumb designs on that pickup. One is what I just did, another is the oil filter outside on the frame, behind the bumper.
Thankfully its done, I don't want to do that again.
