So I have the common issue with the "Default to Defrost" like most seem to be having here.,.
Heres the deal, I have replaced the Vacuum Pump, Pulled and installed my buddies control head, and checked for leaks and still cannot find where its going bad.
I dont know what else to do, and theyre predicting SNOW tomorrow!
Did you replace the ESOF vacuum solenoid valve? Those often leak internally and you won't know it.
Try plugging off the whole ESOF system, including that valve, and see if it still leaks. That valve is on the passenger side fender well, right next to the pump.
You can trace it down by starting with the canister( I just went thru this). If you pull the double rubber vac line connector off the canister, then only hook back up the one from the pump and hold your finger over the other plug, the pump should only take about 45-60 sec to stop. If it stops then plug both back in and follow the other line out of the canister. If you care careful the lines will come apart. There is one line that goes down to the esof from the top. The splice that will allow you to eliminate either the drivers or passenger side as the culprit is by the axle tube on the passenger side on the back side of the axle tube. Basically you can disconnect each section of the system thus ruling it out as the leak. My pump never took more than 60 sec to vac down after opening the system eliminating all vacuum in the system. Hope this helps.
So yesterday I went to bring the truck into the shop so I could trace the lines and figure this thing out. On my way I decided to stop by a property and plow the snow that had fallen.
Halfway through the job (while in 4x4) suddenly I had the heat through all the vents on the dash. I decided that bringing it to the shop while its working was worthless. (kinda like going to the doc after your sickness).
It worked all day long...until I pulled in the driveway and put the truck in park. Then it reverted right back to "Default to Defrost."
So, since this time, the heat didnt work for 2 days. Then suddenly it kicked in and hasnt had an issue since.
there is a small grey hose that is attached to a valve on the heater hose. from what ive heard, if that has a little leak, or is cracked, it can cause a no heat situation. mine came off once and didnt notice till i put my coolant filter on. just a guess tho.
