Brake problem

Hi guys!

New to the forum. I have a '95 F250 460 with an interesting brake issue. I searched and couldn't really find anything, so I thought I'd ask.

The problem:

When I tap and release the brake pedal, the brakes will apply fully instead of releasing when I release the pedal. In order to get the brakes to release I have to pull up on the brake pedal, or stomp on it and the pedal will gradually come back up. I checked the pedal return spring and it wasn't broken. There are no fluid leaks.
Even when I barely tap the brakes I can watch the pedal get sucked to the floor. I suspect a bad brake booster. Am I on the right track here?

Thanks!

Yea sounds like an air valve problem inside the booster itself, I'd replace it.

I would agree with a bad booster. To confirm pull the vacuum pipe at the booster and then try the brake pedal. It will feel hard but if it returns normally with vacuum disconnected then it is a good bet that the booster is bad.

replacing shouldn`t be a problem. Pull the vacuum pipe. Unbolt the master cyl, should be able to pull it forward enough without disturbing the brake pipes. Look at the rear of the master cyl to confirm no fluid leaks. Disconnect pushrod at pedal, remove nuts holding booster and remove booster.

Cool! I thought it looked like there would be enough room to remove the booster without having to remove the brake lines.

Thanks!

Like Lazy K said, be sure to check the back of the master for any fluid leaks.. If you find any, now would be the time to replace the master..
