Most say it's not worth it. It doesn't really "help". But I do find that it makes it more agressive sounding since I can ear the intake in the cab. I love the sound.

The part that goes from the valve cover to the intake box I just cut the tube shorter and re used it on the intake I put in. It came with a piece of hose for it but it was blue and my truck is red.

Yea you want that, provides for filtration of the air drawn through the CC.

Since its technically not a cold air intake since it takes the hot air from the engine bay....

I found this

Higher intake charge temperature has been found to increase the flame speed, the combustion reaction rate, the uniformity of the fuel-air mixture and reduce the heat transfer rate though the cylinder walls. This all adds up to the engine using more heat for physical movement and less being wasted.

The downside to this is that hotter air also tends to retard ignition timing and cause engine pinging. Different engines will react differently to warm air intakes and testing will need to be done to see if it will work for your specific vehicle. Saturns are known to react well to warm air intakes.

I know this is just a quote from ecomodder (which I've spend many hours reading at before), so know I'm not trying to pick on you in any way.

most of that makes sense, but the thermodynamics don't make sense. If I'm not mistaken, a colder intake charge would yield cooler cylinder temps (and EGTs). This would mean that the difference between flame temp and the engine block's temp (governed by the thermostat) would be less than if you had a warm intake charge (warmer combustion process). The bigger the difference in temp, the more heat will move out of the cylinder through the block and eventually removed by the cooling system. This is why a cooler Tstat robs power, it widens the gap between cylinder temp and block temp.

So wouldn't a warm air intake actually make more heat flow out of the cylinder into the block? Does this make sense or am I way out in left field?

Just keep the stock air box. Its already a cold air intake. The aftermarket type stuff is actually a warm air intake. I had the KN FIPK and will never do that again. Royal waste of money.

A cooler T stat does rob power. I tried it years ago. My truck ran way rich and got lousy fuel mileage. Also, the computer expects the truck to be fully warmed up.

Get the 300/460 intake duct, and you'll be good to go. Many recent threads about this very topic.

I have a full K&N tube and filter that would fit for sale in the classifieds.

The 5.0/5.8 tube from the radiator support isn't that great. The 4.9/7.5 one is much better.

Put a wanted post in the classifieds. Most people that put in the "CAI" throw their stock air intakes into the trash, and would probably mail you theirs for the cost of the shipping. I've got the stock one on my truck, but unfortunately for you I'm keeping it!

Or head-on down to your local junkyard. Or, online, www.car-part.com.
