What would cause BOTH front brakes to stick at the same time? I will just be driving my truck(76 hiboy) and for one reason or another the brakes will get stiffer and stiffer. They will sometimes stick enough to make them smoke. It seems to happen (but not always)when my foot is in the gas. But I can pull over shut off my truck for 5 minutes and they will be fine(9 times out of 10). Also I have got them to free up a couple times by just tapping the brake pedal.
What is going on here? The master is new, the booster looks new but has been in there for the 2 yrs ive owend the truck. All front brake parts (rotors, calipers, pads, caliper housing brackets and h pins) are less than a year old. The brake lines i havent touched.
Any ideas guys?
Has this started just since the master was changed? Sounds like the rod from booster to master isn't adjusted properly and is keeping pressure on the master - thus keeping the brakes applied. That would explain why they release when the motor is off for a while - no vacuum, so the booster releases tension. Pull the master away from the booster and use small wrench to turn the booster rod a little shorter (it has a threaded adjustment). Only turn 1/4 turn or so at time, it doesn't take much. Test drive, if still bothers try a little more.
Many people prefer to replace both the master cyl and booster together, so they are a matched pair and adjusted correctly when you get them.
Or is adusting it not that tough to do... I dont have tons of money...Aslo, it doesnt do this all the time and if I remember correctly the problem was the same before I replaced the master.
