I have a 95 f350 7.3l spd. While driving today the check engine light would come on itermitanly and the truck would loose almost all power for a few secs the return to normal, later on in the day cel came on permanetly and truck has extemely low power runs rough. No smoke. Please help thanks
Unless you want to just throw parts at it you need to get the codes read. The parts store code readers won't do it, it has to be a good quality reader to "speak psd". The only thing I can think of that would be a cheap attempt would be to change the CPS. As always, get one from Ford or International.
after looking at it now that i limped it home it is only runing on 4 cylinders (passenger side) however when I disconnet the rear driver side valve cover connctor (turbo inlet) the cel goes off and the engine runs on 6 cylinder?????
i pulled the valve cover and the connectors on the inside are melted on the edges pretty bad. What causes them to short, and do they sell replacements at standard auto parts stores or is it stealership only??? thanks
A loose plug can cause them to short. It's not too uncommon. Many of the local parts stores sell a replacement valve cover gasket and wiring made by Dorman. Several here have used those with success. You can also get them from an International truck dealer cheaper than the Ford house will sell it to you.
Thanks for the replies, I will change the glowplugs on that side and replace the gasket,,,,,I just hope I didn't overheat the other side of the engine getting it home...... Just one of those weeks when everything is going wrong.. Thanks everybody.
