Crown Vic.I.F.S.

I have been following the build thread on the CV installation.looks interesting but I have a couple of question.
1st. Would some Mercs. and Lincolns be the same?
2cd.Is there spindles or hubs available so I can use the F100 rims and not the car rims.I would like to have the same bolt pattern all the way around.
thanks

1. 2003-2007 Mercury Marauder, Crown Vics,Mercury Marquis, Lincoln Town cars
2. Can't answer. In all of the threads I've only seen discussion on what wheels work with the Town Car bolt pattern.

Yes all 2003-2007 Crown Vics, Mercury, and Lincolns of the same body style would work.
As far as the bolt pattern goes you can put in the rear end from a non IRS car with the same bolt pattern. I think explorers and certain Crown Vic style cars have the 8.8 rear end with the 5X4.5 bolt pattern. I know at some point Crown Victoria used a complicated type of rear end that would be hard to incorporate into your truck, but I believe you can still use the rear end. It would involve taking your rear end out and cutting off the leaf spring mounting plates. You would then weld them onto your 8.8 rear end and bolt it in. No big deal.
I am currently doing the CV IFS swap into my '58 F 100 and I am planning on later putting in the rear end from one of these cars. It gives you the same bolt pattern so it's easier to buy wheels for it and it gives you disc brakes all around. The 8.8 also has almost any gear application that you could desire so it can be used in any application.
Make sure you measure the width of the rear end before you buy it because some cars have a wider or narrower rear end. You would want to get one that best fits your truck. I would suggest doing this swap along with the CV IFS because you would get the same bolt pattern and disc brakes all around relatively easy and pretty cheap.

Why would i trade a 9in. for a 8.8 rear end?

Just an option. It's an easy and cheap way of getting the same bolt pattern as the front and disc brakes all around. The 8.8 is not as legendary as the great Ford 9 inch, but it is still tough. They use the 8.8 in my '92 F-150 and many other applications. You can get any type of gear ratio you could want for it also. Unless you are planning on racing and need the quick change feature the 9 inch offers, you are not losing out by going to the 8.8. But then again it is your truck and you can do whatever you want to with it. I'm just throwing out an idea.

I got a 8.8 in mine. These axles are just as strong as a 9 inch and most will already have disc like fast58 said. there are also wheel spacers available that would change bolt patern but im not a huge fan of spacers, or any reputable machine shop can redrill the hubs of either the IFS or the rear axle to either bolt pattern you may want.

BTW as of now i dont believe there is any aftermarket spindles for the crown vic. and you would not be able to run original F100 wheels or anything with a "older style" backspacing anyway because of the width of this front end. I just sold my 04 Bullitt wheels for a set of 05 Bullitts because it has an extra half inch of offset which puts my wheels now perfectly in the fender enuf to drop my truck an extra inch or 2.

Currently I know of no spindles available other than stock. You can get drop springs from Eaton Detroit
