Flowmaster super 44

Already posted in the V10 section but no luck yet.

Does anyone have a video or audio file of a v10 with a flowmaster super 44?

I have a 03 Excursion V10 4X4 and considering either a Flowmaster 40 or super 44.

I know most will go with the 40 but I can't hear the 44 anywhere.

I have the 44 and it is going on this week, It might be on today I don't know. I am going by the shop Thursday afternoon to check it out. I can make a cellphone video...

I listened to the 40 on youtube on a bunch of v10s, I also listened to the 44 on a bunch of other trucks. I can tell you right now that it is going to be LOUD!!!

The 44 is very small, so small that I think I might have messed up by getting it. I like it loud but I feel like this might be too loud.

Well too late now it is going on and I'll probably live with it until I can do something better like dual pipes or something.

Anyway, I will shoot some cellphone video on Thursday (or sooner) and post it somewhere for you.

I'd go with a 44. The 44 is made for bigger engines. I had the 40 on my 2.3 ranger. Sounded great for a 4 banger.

Wanted to do Headers and Y Pipe at the same time.

What do you mean by too small?
Could it hurt truck and/or performance?
I thought it had a 4" outlet.

It is a very small unit overall, the one I bought is 3" center in and out.
My Dynomax muffler on my 460ci F250 was bigger, still 3" in and out but the unit was larger. That thing was loud loud loud. I had the Banks Ram Air kit on it also. It has occurred to me that the sound inside the Ex will be different also since the body runs all the way to the back. On the F250 the whole muffler was behind the cab and then the pipe dumped down right off the end of it under the bed. That truck sounded so damn good, I like everything about the Ex better except the sound. With the stock muffler it sounds like really weak, I hope the Flowmaster wakes it up and tones it up.

I've thought about it, but then I would need to get two cats, that would not be cheap. I've heard that true duals aren't that great on the v10.

I'll probably just do headers and the y-pipe and if I feel like changing the muffler I'll change it. The stock system is pretty good... changing a few parts seems like 90% as good as replacing the whole thing.

definitely take a vid and post it. I will wait for it.

Any idea if it will hurt anything to go with a small unit?

I'll do that as soon as I get the chance (probably Thursday). I'll wind it up a little and maybe peel around the lot a bit.

I don't think so, I am just thinking small muffler = small amount of muffling. It will reduce backpressure. I have a nice looking cold air intake going on at the same time, I am under the impression that it will also change the sound and make it louder.

@Ghadaz my mechanic just started the truck up for me while I was on the phone with him... it sounds freakin' awesome. I can't wait to go check it out tomorrow. I think the Super44 is gonna be a win!

Nice. You'll have to let me know how it sounds to from inside the cabin. Do you tow with your truck? I saw a post saying it isn't so great when you tow. You can really hear the drone sound in the cabin.

Don't have anything to tow. I am not against towing stuff, but that isn't why I have the truck.

Every so often I'll tow a car or my cousins wood trailer or a Uhaul trailer or something like that.

A 44 is too loud for me but more importantly, it wouldn't be wife-approved.

I have had the super 44 on mine for about 3 years now. Its definately loud. I love it. The volume also depends where they mount the muffler. I have mine about 3 inches after the cat. the further back, the less loud. TOWING........ If you tow, you will hate it. The last 2 FTE rally's, going up all those hills with the travel trailer, I started to really hate it. The drone inside is really bad. Everyone says that it's too loud, I want it louder but hate the sound of no cat or straight piped.
