Tour of the Kentucky Truck Facility

Got this email,, as probably most everyone has,,,if you didn't catch it, the link brings you to a tour of the plant and the manufacturing of a 2012 SD...kinda cool:

That's what I did for 37 years before retiring, building the dies and fixtures for Ford. P.S. that Schuler transfer press will run a panel for 5-6 shifts then do a rapid die change (rdc) along with changing the automation arms and within 15 minutes be stamping another body panel. Under those press lines which you can't see are scrap conveyors that take away the scrap sheet metal that falls down chutes that come off the trim dies. The scrap conveyor goes into a baler which makes a several hundred cube of scrap steel, then dumps it into a train car, then off to the steel company to repeat the cycle.

Cool article. Shame Ford doesn't do more touring of that plant.

Thanks for sharing; very cool. I agree that it's too bad we can't tour but that was a good article nonetheless.

Thanks for the link. I'd love to take that tour but I'd bring my own MRE so I could keep going all day. That's fascinating stuff.

That was an excellent article! If anyone ever has a chance to tour the plant and has an extra ticket, let me know.
