Map line?

Where is the map line? How do i clean it? And after i drain the fuel bowl, do i have to refill it manually or does the pump fill it up?

I went mudding the other day, cleaned the motor on saturday and replaced air filter. This afternoon, i went to start it and it took me 3 tries to get it to run. Was on a high idle and was ROLLING black smoke when i revved it. Lots of white smoke at first. Got on the road and took it through the gears - had little power when i got on it, the rpms didnt raise much if i floored it, just slowly went up. It seemed to get better as i drove. I dropped it off at the stereo place to do some wiring, ill check the filter and map line when i get it back tonight

This is your MAP sensor and hose, although it would not cause the symptoms you described ...

Probably got water somewhere cleaning the engine - sensor and it's slowly evaporating, at least hope so.

Did it evaporate or did you have to get a new one?

Mike, i blew out just about every sensor except 2 - the IPR and plug on the passenger side of the fuel bowl that has a lot of wires (it is screwed on to the bowl)

Ive heard of the IPR orings - if i unplug the IPR will i need to replace them? And whats the other plug? Both are considerably dirty

You can unplug the IPR and not hurt anything now if you take the IPR out of the HPOP then you have to change orings.

The plug on the fuel bowl is on a slide clip. If you pull the whole pulg to the rear of the truck it will come off

A loose tin nut on the IPR can cause it to run funny...I would check the wiring to the IPR clip for Rub-out...

what symptoms would a cloged or having a hole in the map line cause?

I just bought my '97 and it seemed to run just fine other than a small fuel leak. While i was in there replacing all the o-rings and fuel pump i noticed the map line had a small hole in it. I replaced the line with regular 5/16" fuel line. The truck seems to run just as it did before. I would think it would loose a little boost having a hole in the map line?

First of all the engine should be under load to make proper boost just revving the engine in neutral means dick ....Do you have a boost guage installed or acess to a live data scanner ? Theoretically If it is clogged the sensor reading will cause PCM to use a default value so you will be wasting fuel...it should also set a code. If you have a hole in it you should hear a hiss unless your Up- pipes leak and you are not making max boost regardless.....Do you have sooot around your pipes / collector areas ?
