Hello, my brother has a 96 f250 with an e4od auto in it. He wants so swap it to a 5 speed. What all is needed to swap, I know basics like pedals and stuff but does he need wiring harnesses and Ecm too? He is wanting to swap a 5 speed out of a 89 f250 with an idi 7.3 into his 96 can this be done? Thanks Justin.
That's a pretty common question. The wiring and PCM in an auto truck will work just fine when swapping to a 5-speed. You will need the floor pan section with the cutout for the shifter (it just bolts in), the pedalbox with the brake and clutch pedals, the clutch master and slave cylinders, the manual steering column (optional but makes a nice finished look), a manual gauge cluster (or at least the blank to cover the shifter indicator from an auto). Also recommended would be a single mass flywheel and clutch, and you may (you likely will) need to have the driveshaft length adjusted.
Supposedly, any transmission out of a diesel truck will work. Also, if the truck is a 4x4, it will need a transmission out of either another 4x4 truck, or a F-super Duty with the transmission mounted parking brake.
For what it's worth I am trying to sell all these components for a 2 wheel drive truck together as a kit. I don't want to sound like I am trolling for a sale, and I see you're a ways away, but I have everything for sale. PM me if you're interested.
You can use the harness from the auto but will have no reverse lights if that matters. You also need the trans crossmember. And I believe the clutch and flywheel have to be for the stroke. Maybe a different bolt pattern or something...

I wound up using my original steering column as opposed to the donor steering column. I just took the trip pieces and the key release lever from the donor and they bolted right in. They work great. I left the original gauge cluster in my truck and didn't alter it at all. I like having the PRND21 there, because it is a good conversation piece, and it reminds me of where I am and where I came from.
I did the swap you are referring to with a similar donor (an old IDI). If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
