Hello I'm new to the forum and just bought a 1998 f-150 lariet. The original owner put 16.5 inch rims on the truck. Stock the truck is rated for 17inch rims. Truck needs tires right away and the tire size is 33x12.50x16.5. My question is will a 16 inch rim fit on the truck with clearing the brakes and rotors? I don't really want to have the extra expense of a 17 inch tire. Also the only tire that I can find in my current size is a bfg A/T. I've heard mix reviews about the tire and its life. Does anyone have advice. Thanks
I only have experience with the tire. It's a pretty good tire, but can wear a little more quickly if you don't keep em rotated regularly. You'll also get better wear out of a load rated E tire.
16's are fine on ur truck. and a 265/75/16 would look real good and be similar in size compared to the 265/70/17 that came factory. bfgs are ok but truthfully general grabber at2's are better tires with better mileage and traction IMO...
you could go 285 70 16.... they r priced better than 33's... would prob look better too.. just a thought.. 285 is very close in height compared to a 33... a little narrower which is good for front end parts
no problem.. there are tons of rims and tires out there, just be sure u gt the back spacing correct. it will save you tons of money in the long run.. these front end parts dont like lifts or any mods to the suspension.. stay as close to stock back spacing as you can.
16.5's are a thing of the past BFG is the only company that makes one and they are not cheap. All you can do is go 16 or 17 inch and up. If cost is a factor go 16 inch wheels and tires.
i work at a shop that sells tires, we have lots of individual brands, the two have been getting the most positive feedback are Achilles and (believe it or not) Firestones...
