I had a emergency cold start the other morning in snow outdoors without being plugged in,let gp's go for a bit and the ol girl started first time! these old trucks just wont die, gotta love it,oh and also the ad for my two serp belts from dual tensioner upgrade are on classifieds here ,last guy bailed on me!! hate to throw new belt away!
I started mine today for the 1st time in almost a week. The last 2 nites it was down to 0 and today we had a high if 17. I let the GP's run till the light went out and it started with about 15-20 seconds of cranking.
^^^^^ +1; we used to bring a generator out to our rustic cabin in winter, just to plug in the block heater. Waste of time. We just run the Stancor for 20-30 seconds, twist the key and it smokes and chugs, but it lights. Cab heat doesn't come up so fast, but....
I've got a LED light that shows the actual GP run time. I never pay attention the the WTS light. You're right, I could have cycled the plugs again but I also have DRL's and didn't want to run the batteries down with the headlights.

Is there a writeup running around somewhere about a GP light?
All you need is a 12v light and some wire. Run a wire to the big gpr post that energizes when the gp's are on. Run the wire to the light and one to a ground. And any time the gpr energizes the light will come on.

My DRL's don't come on if the parking brake is applied. I thought the same as you until I started it at night parked in front of my garage.
