Another "NO START"

Yesterday it was 10* out and my truck was not pluged in as I wanted to see how it would start. Well it started on the first try but died, tried 2nd time and she stayed running so great. Let it run for about a 1/2 hour and shut it off, got up this morning and temp was up to 25* and still not pluged in, no problem. Tried to start it and it would not start. Cranks over great but no start, so for some reason I decided to check the HPOP resevoir and it was dry, have no idea why. Replaced the LPOP back a month or so ago with a Mellings pump due to a hard start problem and after replacing LPOP it started fine untill today. Any clues as to why the resevoir would drain back????????????????????????

Oil leak somewhere else maybe? How does the dip stick look for oil in the engine?

I had the oil changed about a 1000 miles ago and it is still kind of clear, I pulled the dip stick and the level was just under the full mark so there was plenty of oil in the pan.

Fill up the HPOP and start the truck and see if the oil leaks out of there again

Yesterday morning I started it with no problem, I let the glow plugs come and after the WTS light went off it started right up. So, have no idea what caused the resevoir to go dry.

Here is a TSB About the oil drain back:

Article No.
95-8-8
04/24/95
^
ENGINE - 4.9L - "KNOCKING" NOISE ON INITIAL START-UP
^
NOISE - 4.9L "KNOCKING" NOISE ON INITIAL START-UP
LIGHT TRUCK:
1984-95 BRONCO, ECONOLINE, F-150-350 SERIES
This TSB is being republished in its entirety to include the 1995 model year.

ISSUE:
An engine knock of about 3-5 seconds may be heard on initial start-up, after an extended soak time (eight hours or more). This may be due to insufficient oil at the engine bearings, caused by engine oil drainback from the engine oil filter.
ACTION:
Install an anti-drainback engine oil filter adapter. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.
Drain and discard engine oil.
2.
Remove and discard engine oil filter.
3.
Remove and discard engine oil filter adapter insert.
4.

Install the service replacement anti-drain back engine oil filter adapter insert (E4TZ-6890-A).
5.
Tighten the anti-drainback insert to 15-35 lb.ft. (20-48 N-m).
6.
Lightly lubricate the gasket surface of the new oil filter (FL-1A).
7.
Install the new engine oil filter
to the cylinder block and rotate the engine oil filter one-half turn after the gasket contacts the sealing surface.
8.
Fill the engine with the proper grade and amount of engine oil, as specified in the appropriate Owner Guide.
PART NUMBERPART NAME
E4TZ-6890-A Oil Filter Mounting Insert
D9AZ-6731-A Engine Oil Filter

this appears to be needed for the repair

this is about throttle cable ground outs causing a knock or buzzing noise. This is how to route the cable and tie it to prevent that. This is probably not your issue (mostly at 1500-3000rpm) but I included it just incase

This is only for 95-96 according to the TSB, but the upstream check valve (by the intake in the diagram) can cause knocking on cold start

What is the date on your sticker on the door jamb say? If your truck is an early 93, here is some info:
NOISE - "KNOCKING" SOUND TRANSMITTED THROUGH FUEL LINES - 4.9L ENGINE VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 10/1/92
LIGHT TRUCK:
1992-93 BRONCO, F-150-350 SERIES
This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to include early built 1993 model vehicles.
ISSUE:
A fuel system "knocking" noise may be heard. The noise is caused by fuel injector pulsations that are transmitted through the fuel lines.

The TSB has a LOT of information and pictures, so if you find your truck is in the date range covered by this, I can get you more info.
