I live in Marietta, Ohio and we are right on the river across from WV.
Too funny, I used to go to Beverly and Marietta once or twice a year from Chicago to see my grandmother, but now that we moved to PHX - it is getting a little harder to get over there.
thats a heck of a dolly! you jack it up on each side to get the wheels back underneath??
Sam
Yep... I built the platform before I went to get the cab. I didn't want wheels on it until I was ready to roll it off the trailer. When I got ready to take it off I put the cross pieces and wheels on it the same day I rolled it off. The cab withn the subframe is really quite heavy. I'd have to guess 900 to 1,000 pounds. It was set on the platform on the trailer with a big back hoe used a hydraulic crane of sorts. I think I can restore most of it but it would be better to get a hood in better shape than what I have.

Next time I am in town, I will let you know!
Far out Man...
Maybe you can bring up some parts for help with your gas money. It seems that my source is in Phoenix. I think he is on here as C700. I was down there in '08 when I transported a small plane down there to get an engine put in it at the Glendale Airport. I wouldn't mind coming down if I can snag a haul there and then snoop around the bone yards. Trouble is I don't know where anything is.

Well, that's the thing. The distance from PHX to Beverly prevents us from driving in (we would drive it from Chicago - 9 hours later) so we would probably have to fly into Columbus and drive to Beverly from there. With todays baggage charges - I don't think I would be bringing any parts!!

Actually I was sort of kidding about that. Just said it on the premiss of a slim chance. Thought maybe since you are into the old ROUTE 66 thing you would take the trip. That was mostly how we came down. Went through Columbus on I-70 to get the plane and then on to St. Louis where we more or less followed old 66 to Flagstaff and then veered off down I-17 to Phoenix. We should have come back that way but we needed to go to Atlanta next so we went back across on I-10 and I-20. I would like to get down there again with the big enclosed or even the open trailer but I need to snag a paying load and then find some good stuff to bring back here to the rust belt. These COE body parts are like finding gold and they cost about the same when you do find them.
However, if you ever do get up this way stop in for a visit. Just let me know ahead of time when you are planning a visit because we are retired and given to taking off on the spur of the moment. Sometimes these transport jobs come out of nowhere. I don't do a lot of them because people are not willing to pay what it costs to do the jobs and make it worthwhile.
Later Man...

Reason: Typos
To keep the casters fairly straight replace the two rearward side attaching bolts with longer ones - They need to come down far enough to block the wheel from turning but not hit the tire - I figured that out after chasing my Panel body around the driveway

Yeah, you're right. Good idea... They do need something to stop them from going all the way around when outside. Inside on the level floor it's OK. I have a rigid triangular tow bar for it so I can hook it up to my JD diesel garden tractor outside. That keeps it from wondering on terrain that is not level. But it would have been kind of tough having it hooked to the JD on the tilt bed.
Hi Folks,
I just ordered rocker panels and cab corners from Dennis Carpenter. That was a quick way to blow $200.00. So, let's see, so far it's like this. $500.00 for the COE cab, $500.00 for two good doors from AZ, plus $200.00 for the shipping, about $90.00 for the platform and the big caster wheels, $50.00 in fuel to bring the cab home plus the $200.00 I just spent. Now I'm up to $1,440.00 and all I have to show for it is this pile of rust in the shop. I must be insane. On top of all this I can think of another $800.00 that needs to be spent on it just to get the cab in primer and ready to paint. Since there are no COE cab specific parts being produced as there are for the conventional cab, with exception of cab corners and a few parts that normally aren't subject to the rust bugs. The rest of the sheet metal I have to fabricate and that isn't all. I also have to restore parts of the front fenders and make all the side steps from scratch. I can see three grand going into just the cab. What was I thinking???
I have

Yep, I'm still around and deeper than ever into this stuff. Guess I needed two money pits to throw money in.. I found this COE and I couldn't resist it. Forget about the weakness of the flesh, it's the old ford truck disease I suffer from. The '53 was bad enough, now I'm into to something they are not making parts for and I have to look all over the country for them. I'm still looking for a hood for this thing.

Budget targets are the latest form of fantasy and denial. To be realistic, double you projected cost and add 10% for tools, equipment and expenses.
hey dood so I called the guy and he still has the hood,..I could look at it but he is 3 hours away from me,If your interested we could ask a member that lives close by to take a look at it..
I am having my hood shipped from Va to Ca and I know how much of a PITA is to arrange all that.
I am paying 90 bucks to have it shipped via greyhound..PM if you are intereted

I am definitely interested. Where is the hood? I would be willing to arrange a truck freight pickup from right where it is. I could also arrange instant payment by Paypal. Is there any way I can see a few pictures? I am really interested in seeing the inside of the bottom edge where it comes down to latch. Please let me know ASAP or E-mail me at db1@pvpmedia.com and I will even call you or the guy who owns the hood. If it isn't rusted out I want it. The hood is the same for the '53 to '56 COE cabs. Does he have any other parts like fenders? Please respond ASAP.
