Every time I turn on the key in my 1977 F-250 the radio comes on to the same station (opra music) which I cannot stand, the clock says 12:00, and there are no presets. I cannot find the wire that carries power to the radio when the key is turned off. I don't know what could have happened. It just started doing it one day. It is a replacemnet Sears radio from the 80's. Have any ideas?
I do, in a car stereo there are three power wires. Usually one is black (ground), one is red (accessory), and last yellow (Constant power). It sounds to me like you have your constant hooked up to your accessory wire, try tapping it into your cigarette lighter or just run a wire from your battery, that should solve your memory problems. If it doesn't, then it's probably an internal problem w/your radio. Hope this helps!!
It's a good guess, but I doubt that would be the case, most decks, come to think of all the decks I have ever had experience with will not even turn on if one of the fuses blows on either wire. I've installed hundreds and hundreds of decks on a day to day basis and your problem is pretty cut and dry, when you turn off your truck your deck loses it's constant power, and thus you lose your presets and get that annoying opra station!
All the radio manufacturers seemed to have their own wiring colors in the old days. I noticed all the new radios and aftermarket harness adapters do have the same wiring colors. I believe somebody a few years back stepped up to the plate and made some sort of standard. They must have some sort of aftermarket radio association now or something. It sure would help if the auto manufacturers would do the same. The government stepped in and made them all go to OBDII, which makes it nice since you only need one code reader for the different engine computers.
