I have a 1987 F250 Diesel that is 100% except that the cruise control doesn't work anymore. I"ve looked into this in the past and havn't had any luck fixing it yet. Today I checked again into the vacuum issue. I pulled the vacuum line that goes into the round whatever on the drivers side fender wall and have good vacuum. Then one by one I"ve pulled the other lines off but never got any vacuum from any of the other hoses or fittings on the round thing, selnoid maybe? I got into the truck and turned on the CC by pushing the button on the steering wheel but notything changed. Still nothing from any of the other vacuum lines or fittings. Could the round thing be releasing the vacuum? I don't think that would be happening because that would affect the brakes and they work fine.
I don't think you will see any changes in the vacuum sitting still.. The speed control doesn't work under around 30 MPH.. Also make sure the vacuum dump switch at the brake pedal is holding. It should break vacuum when the plunger is pushed in, but hold when the plunger is extended.
87 does not have a clock spring.
your truck has a manual trans, correct?
my 88 acts up every now and then. the clutch switch is the culprit on mine. if the pedal is down the slightest bit, no cruise. toe the pedal to full release, and the cruise works.
My 90 F250 has a cruise issue too, ... turn head lights on = cruise off, use right turn signal + cancels cruise ...it is the same before and after I installed a new turn sig switch. so check out if that applies to yours. I just learned to live with it.
My cruise control just stop working also. I went to use the hazard lights for the first time i had the truck in years and the cruise control canceled right away after i pushed it. (btw hazards dont work either they just stay lit. 96 f150 5.0)

'96 could be a broken clockspring as mentioned before. I think this would only apply to the cruise control. Does your horn work? does your air bag light flash constantly?

Odds are the flasher unit on top of the fuse panel (under dash) is bad.
BTW, The flasher on the bottom of the fuse panel (under dash) is for the turn signals.
