96 f350, 460 which ICM will work
This may be beaten to death but I have the black ICM. When I look up on Rock Auto they list the gray ICM. When I google I found the tread a previous tread from Ford-trucks that bounces back and forth on the gray working (newer version). Will the motorcraft DY1077 work in place of the (engineering # F1SF-12A297-C1A) which is the one that's currently in the truck. I hate to say it but everywhere I check keeps referring me to the gray one which I have always heard is different. I'm ordering the DY1077 from rock auto (despite them saying the gray), just want to know if I'm correct in what I'm doing. Thanks.

You are correct, we go through this chinese firedrill every week. As noted dozens of times before most part manuals list the wrong ICM for this vintage truck...even Ford.
You ordered the correct one for your truck.
Another example of how incorrect information from an OEM propagates to the aftermarket.

Thank you. I've been learning from the site for the last yr or so and remember this coming up fairly often. Tried the search and didn't get much. It makes sense about the different colors for different set-ups, it's amazing how all the auto store books follow through with the mistake. Thanks again for confirming.

Didn't go by vehicle, went by part # Motorcraft DY1077. Got part # from old tread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...-module-3.html from subford. Went to Rock Auto and kept getting gray module. Put in # DY1077 in search and got it More Information for MOTORCRAFT DY1077

I use the same technique when buying engine parts for my 1991 Bobcat 642B skid-steer. Same engine as a 1979 Dodge Colt w/1.6L engine.
