well the bed on my truck is shot. has any one made a dump flatbed. its only a 150 4-4. so i cant build a boat anchor. could you show me some pictures of the fulcrum and cylinders. i'm not going to do it till spring. its to cold to walk till its done.
Like this?
I'll get pics of the lift system later (little busy), that truck was originally a dump truck just took the dump bed off, and made it a flatbed. I would suggest not making a flatbed that heavy, bed is part 1/2" and part 5/8" steel deck plate. My dad wanted a counterweight.
ON EDIT:
This truck does not use a scissor lift, it uses a two stage cylinder.
You may wish to check, I know here a dump truck can not be classified as private, they are always a commercial vehicle and the state will rape you for registration.
P.S. Last time that 86 was tagged was 98 and it was 500 every 6 months.
Those of you who have done this, I must ask, how did you support the fuel filler neck(s)?
I've been wanting to make my factory bed a dump bed, and I have most of the parts to do that, except I couldn't figure out what to do with the fuel necks.
I imagine with a flatbed that's easier... but any ideas for a factory bed?
And my apologies to the OP for the slight diversion, but maybe the answer will be beneficial to you also.
With the flat bed easiest way is just leave it under the bed, pick the bed up 6" to fill. With a pickup the only way I've seen that worked worth a crap was to build a bracket to hold them still (in relation to the chassis) and have them sort of float in the hole.
on the fuel filler. make sure that its not pinched in the frame area as it takes forever to fill tanks and Ive seen where they installed smaller diameter hoses takes forever to fill and the pump nozzle kicks off. don't need a full blown dump setup. if it raises to top of cab it would do every thing i need. too much higher and the springs would give out. only a half ton. the rear hinge area is easy to do. just figuring the point of ram location and attachment. thanks for all replys
Fred, disconnect the fuel fill from the bedside. support it off the frame, with the fill at the trapdoor.
this way you still have the fuel fill at the door, but it is connected to the frame instead of the bed.
