what is the point of having an excursion and loving your excursion if you put a cummins engine in it? if you do put another engine it like cummins or who ever that will be changing the excursion right?
IMO the engine is also what put ford SUVs portion (they didnt really make suv back then) on the map with its nice engines and big body! Not the explore not the expidtion not the escape not the bronco (i think that what it was called) It was the EXCURSION!
I love my Ex, and dare I say with almost anything under the hood. So yeah it may be hard to call it a Ford Excursion but its still the King of SUVs and that's good enough for me. I don't think I would be up for the conversion necessarily but I would own one with a Cummins, Cat, or Yanmar (been around boats too much) as long as it runs on diesel.
I gotta say - my 74 Bronco has the original 302 (although rebuilt 8 years ago...). But... if my V10 ever goes, I would seriously consider a Cummins swap. Still a Ford - just has different motivation. Kinda like saying you wouldn't like a person (or call them the same name....) if they had a heart transplant.
Open up any HotRod magazine if you wanna see thousands of early Fords with small block Chevy motors. It's called spending YOUR money to mod YOUR vehicle into what YOU want YOUR vehicle to be. Nothing is more American than that!

The 12v, 24v or common rail Cummins is superior to to any engine ever put in the Excursion or F series. If you think otherwise you are simply misinformed. Too bad they wrapped the Cummins with an otherwise inferior truck. F series or Excursion with a Cummins is the perfect vehicle.
I am putting a Cummins in my Ex. It will go great with the mirrors.
In a way as you put it making a change to the Ex makes it no longer an Ex, so a tune, rims/tires, visual mods change it too. Swapping a motor is kinda like putting aftermarket headlights on. (Ok, well not really, just reaching I guess!)
You can order a F650 with a Cummins in it. If I had the coin and the time I think it would be a unique fun project.
Cheers
NOT unique. Do you how many F650 excursions with factory cats and cummins there are running around Las Vegas? They are the top of the line limo here and they are everywhere.
if i had extra 20k laying bet your behind i would be stuffing an LS7 in my EX. hekk ill even settle for a LQ9 swap from an escalade. the power potential is beast!
to me its not really the motor that makes me love my EX. its the whole comfort thing. besides chevy SUV's dont look Bad@55 lifted...FORD Excursions screams GTFO out of my way!
i know i could of went with the Suburban route. .but meh....its not the KING of SUV's.
