So i inherited my dads F-350this past year. Its a Crewcab long bed with a power stroke. He bought it new in 97 and it curently has 175,000 miles on it. I wanna start restoring it and doing some modifications on it. The first step will be to do all the body work on it. You can see the problem spots in the pictures. After that i have a plan for some performance mods. The plan right now is for a 4 in turbo back exhaust, intake, gauges and a chip. Ill try and post my progress as i get things done. Dont mind how dirty it is. They just salted the roads the other day. It looks a lot better than it does in the pictures.
Not sure how im going to go about fixing the tailgate
my dad backed into a tree with the cap open and broke the cap a bit. You can see where it was repaired on the top corner but i wanna clean that up and fix the other crack.
whats the best way to fix this?
Dirty, if thatws a "dirty truck" then that means mine is down right horred looking....man thats a clean truck you got there, and my fav configureation, F350 crew cab...with long bed too...as for the topper looking good there!
I see someone in your family (you?) is an Eagle scout also? Im a fellow Eagle scout my self now show us the interior bro....we love our truck pr0n err pics....
as for a chip, im not sure if that would be the best thing, IIRC you could just bump the timing to 14* BTDC (Before Top Dead Center) and that would more or less do what a chip would, only thing I see some chips good for is if you want real time data from the engine, or least the ECU part...

Yep im an eagle scout. Got it back in August and got my first palm in december. Ill try and get some pics of the interior tomorrow. As far as the chip goes, i believe what you are saying is correct for the gas engines. I think since its a diesel, it does more than that. I could be wrong though. This isnt the dirtiest its ever been haha but i like to try and keep it clean.

It's a powerstroke.... Not a 460.
Find the diesel specific forum for your engine and power related questions.
But I don't think a 4" downpipe fits well on the OBS trucks. But if it does then I'll go for it.
As far as chips go. Look up DP tuner. Jody does a great job.

Yeah i meant those kits that come with the 3 inch down pipe but are 4 in the rest of the way. Forgot to mention that haha.
How are you going to build your power steps? Sounds interesting.
The current plan is that its gonna be slide out steps. They will sit just under the rocker kinda like rock slider when retracted and the slide out and down when you open the doors. Im not 100% on what im gonna use to push the step out but im leaning towards a pneumatic system.
Well i might as well update this. Most of my time has been taken up by the 49 f1 i got last summer. You can see that in my build thread in my sig.
I havent gotten a whole lot done on this truck. I got some new wheels, made my own side steps and installed a sky shackle reversal kit on the front. It sit about an inch high in the front now so i might add a leaf in the back to get it back level.
I still plan on fixing the rust on the pickup bed in the near future if i ever get some time. Now that ive done some patches on the 49, i fell a lot more confident to tackle the rust on this truck.
Ready Lift makes some 5" blocks to level the truck out.
As for fixing the rust. There is only one way to do it RIGHT
That is remove the ENTIRE panel. Aka replace the bedsides, tailgate, fenders and rad support. YES the rad support is ROTTEN, they are the 1st thing to go
