Christmas Truck Bling

My mother gave me $500 for Christmas to "blow on stuff" for my truck so I decided to get a few items I’ve been wanting for some time now. The first item is the Ford lockpick, although they still haven't made it available for use with a second camera, but I'm tired of waiting. The second is a Plasmaglow FireStorm scanning lightbar for the back of my truck under the tailgate. And third I bought an HID kit for my fog lights, 6000° Kelvin LED lights for most every light bulb in the vehicle and the Sylvania Silver Star Ultras for the headlights. Because I use the daytime running lights, the HID conversion kits are not recommended here. Another thing I got was the Switchback turn signal lights that are white for driving lights but turn amber for turn signals.

$500 well spent.

The difference should be (Tuxedo) Black and White.

Of course there will be before and after pics...

I looked up the firestorm bar and saw it working on YouTube...I would wish that they were faster to match the turn signal speed. The thing I really liked was the bright white lights for backing up!! That would be great! I wonder if you would set them up to be used as lights from the switches on the dash? That would be very handy for hooking up at the hitch etc.

The other cool thing I saw on their site was the Jetstream LED Wake light!! That would be a sweet addition to a boat!

No one looks at your regular turn signal when you have one of these.

The bar is white when in reverse and I usually hook up my trailer in reverse...

No...my backup camera.

And the red running lights are darn bright while in park.

(but now I see where you were going with that) You could easily put it on switches if you wanted to.

Yeah for me I would love to have it when hooking up the boat at night. I looked through the Plasmaglow catalog and they have a bunch of cool ideas for LED lighting.

A simple white fog light on a switch in the rear would be a lot cheaper.

i agree...but not as cool. Since I cannot afford a new truck...I am concentrating on getting the boat the way I like it. Those light kits would be great.

PITS,

Sounds like some cool stuff.....did you need a load equalizer for the Switchbacks?

Thanks,

Well some of the bulbs of started rolling in so I tried installing them on my truck. I was able to get the front dome light cover removed so that I can replace the lightbulbs in there. Sorry no before picture on that one but I did get a before picture of the back dome light and made a little video. As you can see that it's a little bit yellow, although taking a picture of the light is pretty difficult but maybe you can see the comparison between the white front and yellow back.

Here's where I need some help. I looked at the back dome light and I cannot figure out for the life of me where the lock is to unlock to be able to pull it down. I tried the search function but it seems I can only find how to's on pre '08 SDs. There is a notch in the back that doesn't really allow you to get as a screwdriver in there very easily due to the angle and it just doesn't feel like it is unlocking anything. Are there any of you guys that have pulled out the dome light in the back that can tell me how you did it? It feels like it is only mounted to the headliner and I don’t want to break anything. It should be simple to change a light bulb but today I am dum.

Got the SwitchBacks but for some reason they were amber and blinked white which was backwards from what they said in the description so they are going back (yes, I tried reversing them and then they just did not work at all). They are also not as bright as the stock bulb but they do make a cool look in the reflector. And they hyperflash FYI so I will need to use the load resistors. I will just order some Putco all amber high power ones instead.

Stock running light............................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..........SwitchBack LED

Also put in the SilverStar Ultras and they do help a little but since the stock bulbs are also Sylvania halogen, the difference is nothing to write home about.

And I added a LED light bar in the grille. More info on that in this thread

Weather was good today so I popped the lockpick in. Works as advertised. Wished it worked like they told us it would "in the next update" but it is nice to nav on the go.

Pretty easy install. Hard wired my radar detector while I had the dash out. Now it is only on when the key is in the ignition.
