My 3.0 in my 99 Ranger is in good shape but living in Pa. every time it gets to a hill it fades. I've added a chip, large throttle body and intake runner and 3'' exaust from the converter back. I'm ready for something more serious, a stroker? Maybe an engine swap? Anybody have any thoughts?
The truck is a 4x4 and already has 410's. I've never looked at turbos but they usually boost hp at higher RPM, I want torque. Superchargers make power through the RPM range but I haven't found one for this motor. Good thoughts, thanks
You may want to check for codes or a clogged catalytic converter?
I had a 3.0L 5 speed in a 1999 Ranger with a 3.73 rear and it ran great. I never once thought it lacked power. I towed and launched a 18' boat for 5 years with that truck in the hills of northeast PA. I sold it after 89,000 miles.
After driving a 2.3L stick for the last few years I really miss that 3.0L.
All in all I was rather impressed with the 3.0L motor, it wasn't a power house but it got the job done. The guy I sold it to still has it, it's got over 230K on it and still going strong.
