Ive read in a couple threads that removing the fan will help the truck get up to opperating temps faster. I dont pull anything so over heating isnt much of a big deal and its plenty cold enough where I live to off set the difference. Whats your opinion? If it sounds good Ill pull mine off this weekend, I also read that I could pick up half a mile a gallon
I don't know. I know the cooling systems in these trucks work really good. I would just be nervous of something happening and not having the fan there for a back up.
I removed mine when I put the damper on, left it out because later I pulled the engine to do the oil pan, and.... it's still out, that thing is a pain to get threaded back on. Just leaving it off till spring anyway. I haven't noticed any excess temps.
Where's home with the cool temperatures?
You appear to have guages, but can you monitor the coolant temps other than the coolant switch on the dash?
This would likely mean a different serpentine belt - true?
You could consider a grill cover.....alot less hassel than pulling off the degas bottle and upper radiator hose to get the fan and shroud out. I think it was @ $35. Mine warms up faster and stays warmer with it on during the winter here in S.D. (if winter gets here this year)

I was going to suggest the same thing. If you want to get up to temp faster, block the air flow through the radiator. If you want to pick up the mpg....well....you've done plenty to go in the opposite direction

Home is in Michigan its 5* with the wind chill right now. I have the dash gauges and another set to go in waiting water temp, oil psi and volt. I just got my truck back yesterday, had to put a new back half of the drive shaft on, some how I stripped the splines .
I was just thinking about doing it because my truck will ramp up to high idol after a min or two of sitting there after Ive driven it a long ways.
Electric fans are most likley my best option because I dont pull often. but if any of you guys are hauling anything heavy the stock fan hands down out flows any electric fan that Ive yet to see.
I think Ill try it see what happens and Ill report back, and yes the fan will be in the truck somewhere just incase

If I was worried about MPG Id be driving a Honda just an added bonus from what Ive read on here, I figured Id open up a thread on this because I havent come across one dedicated to it yet
Rich, nice pic of the cover. Didn't think of that even though I have done that with just cardboard on previous gas burner trucks.
Where did you order that from?
I bought 2 - one for the Excursion and one for the pick-up - they both are made by Fia. One I picked up at a local truck accessory shop for @ $30. The second I ordered from Cabela's online when they offered free shipping. This one was more expensive but came with a mesh bug screen also - think this one was around $50.
Since it is that cold up where you guys are that I guess the trans doesn't overheat either?
Here in NJ mine would overcook even in the winter if I covered the front. Sometimes I tow about 10k even in the winter. I have to keep a gauge on all the trucks.
