So is there an easy way to tell if you have a 351M or a 400M? I was decoding my vin through an LMC truck catalog and i have the letter H as my engine code which is a 351, but the PO said it's a 400 so i am not sure. I probably could tell from the code on the block but if there was a faster way that would be pretty nice.
You can check the stroke pretty easy. Pull a plug, insert a long plastic straw, rotate to top dead center and mark position on straw......rotate to bottom dead center......mark position on straw. Measure between marks. Install plug.
Only needed if there were any size specific parts externally or for braggin' rights. And bragging could go either way depending on who is on the receiving end.
Haha actually i really wanted it more for bragging rights and for the correctness of my sig and other things. I prefer to say it's a 400 so i think i will stick to it till someone looks at it and say YOU LIE! :P i am not super concerned with it i was just thinking there may be a difference in the water pump or maybe the heads or something that i could easily look at. at the moment i can't drop the pan due to not having a backup vehicle to drive to work. Eventually i plan to have the motor rebuilt and the tranny rebuilt but i have to wait till i get my tax return.
Besides the cubic inches, is there really much of a difference? I think i read somewhere that the 400 has a bit more low end torque but i don't know if it was true
Ah ok. On monday i am dropping my truck off at Aamco transmission so they can do a *free* inspection and tell me if it needs a full rebuild or just parts. I plan on just doing a full rebuild and putting parts in for towing and offroading. i just have to get a price and once i get my tax return i can look into getting that out of the way.

I plan to take my truck into Aamco to have my trans rebuilt, and I have ordered all TCI parts, rebuild kit and a new torque convertor. They have lots for your C6.....

Dang they do have a lot. I might have to shmooze through and find some cool stuff. Unfortunately i don't know much on transmissions so i don't really know what to look for. I do know i want a new torque converter and flywheel/flexplate and that kind of stuff but i don't know what kind to get nor what internals to look for. I think once i get the verdict from Aamco i should be able to start picking out parts.
You know i would almost wonder if it would be worth it to buy a whole new one over rebuilding mine... I guess when i find out the price on mine i can decide
