I have a 2001 navigator and I bought a pioneer AVH-p4300dvd to install in it. I have installed many head units but never one like this so I have a few questions. I have a navigator so obviously have the premium sound in it, I know it has an amp running the factory sub (not working) but I do not know if it has a amp running the speakers. Do navigators have a factory amp that runs the speakers? if so I would like to bypass it. I do not want to mess with splicing into the parking break wire for the dvd so if I just ground the parking break wire form the head unit then the dvd should work correct? On the wire harness for the head unit it has a wire that says reverse postions and to hook up to back up lights, that is just for a reverse camera right?
1) yes you have amps for your door speakers and one for your sub.
2) yes you can bypass it but it will be a pain to do so. ( you will have to run speaker wire from each speaker to the radio). it would be simpler to get a radio harness and just plug your new pioneer into the existing stock harness
3) not sure grounding your pioneer will work that way you might have to have a toggle switch connected to a ground. does your pioneer run off of windows? if so you can do a software hack so it will only prompt you pull over to use gps or DVD if going over 150
4) not sure on the reverse position thingy
