I have a 2003 CC longbed with a 7.3. I average about 15MPG with a Super Chip Micro Tunner set at 60HP. I got about 12.5 when I first bought the truck. Took about 5 or 6 thousand miles before I could get 15MPG out of her. I generaly have a bout 2000 lbs. on the truck all of the time, so you will probably get a little better than 15 when you get her broke in. The Micro tunner (atleast for me) was good foe about 1.5MPG. Some claim more, some less. With the 80HP program, I generally get about 1.5MPG less than normal.
get a k&n air filter and chop off the muffler. i have a 03 f-250 PSD 4X4 cc and when i pulled off the lot, i was getting around 13.9 to 15.0 now i arrange from 16.5 to 19 mpg

As an update... I have been running the SCMT @ 80hp with an Amsoil air filter. I am averaging 14mpg. I could do much better if I would slow down on the hiway. I usally run 75mph most of the time.
As I found out on this board and other locations people say they get 18-20mpg in a diesel, thats right when on Highway Only! ANY city driving makes you get 12-15mpg, If you see better, you have a clogged filter or pinched fuel line.
Hope this makes you feel better, and remember on highway you want to keep it by 2,000 rpm's this is your best burn, and as the dealer said towing or not 18 thats right on highway, all you are doing is pulling dead weight, when you accelerate from stoplight to stopsign you EAT fuel!
I am gogin to try the K&N, but chipin it helps, by 1.5 avg MPG some people get better, some worse, it is for preformance, and more preformance = more fuel.
As one of the FTE moderators said "Like what MPG you get because you are essentialy driving a 4x8 pieve of plywood down the street!"
BTW My cousine's truck is a 99 250 V10 and he gets 12mpg on the highway.
Don't use the K&N, IT WILL let dust into your intake.
Mileage should improve after the breakin. Don't be fooled if you add an aftermarket air intake now, the mileage would improve anyway. Only problem with mods that are supposed to improve mileage is that most guys can't keep their foot out of it and end up getting worse mileage.
And for break-in, does that apply to me? 97,000miles and 5k after new turbo?
Also I drive at 70mph to 75 right at or under 2k RPMs.
Also what is a ok ammount of smoke, I feel mine is toom uch, I never smelled or saw it until this new turbo, now I see it when backing up and driving usual on roads, at nigth I can see it better, and the temp is from 50-70f.

Waht gears ore you running? You are doing good if you can stay under 2000 rpm's at 75mph. I run at 2200 @75mph with 3.73 gears and auto tranny.
Originally posted by chspyder 3.73s and 285x74xr16s the tire makes up for it and the speedo is calibarated so I believe I am on target. And I have an auto tranny too.
Also forgot I am at 2k at 75mph
Jt
Ahhh, yep,, it's the tires. Believe it or not, Ford puts 235's on the XL trucks! And that's what I have.
