V10 running rough
My 99 F250 with a v10 just started to run and idle rough. Throws no check engine lights or anything. I know the exhaust is aftermarket, and starting to rot out. The exhaust had an strong odor to it, almost like fuel. It kind of spits and sputs at the lower RPMs, but it seems over 2,000 RPMs its not as bad.
Any ideas what to check? Even if the exhaust was rotted out, would that cause it to act up like this?

Sounds like a bad coil or two. I had the same thing about those same rpms but would run better at higher rpm. Took it to ford and they couldn't find anything wrong. Then took it to another mechanic it took him 4 days to figure it out. Finally I told them to take it to the mountains I was on when the problam showed up. It would act up the most when under a load around 1500rpm. The mechanic had a laptop hooked up to the truck for the drive, and found the problem was coil #4 and 9 was bad. I know bad coils are hard to find. I have 2 diffrent scanners and no codes ever came up, or check engine light.
I don't think the exhaust has anything to do with the problem. Might be a good time to do a good tune up.
