Differences between 95 and 87 4.9's...

Differences between 95 and 87 4.9's...
I have two f150's (ok, thats a lie, i've got a bunch more) ... anyways, i have a 95 F150 with a 300/5 speed thats getting a 351W swap, and i have my daily driver 87 F150 with a 300/4 speed. I'd like to rebuild the 300 out of the 95 and plunk it into my 87 ... is there any differences i need to look out for?

I don't think there is any significant difference between the 87 and 95 300's.

There 'may' be subtle differences in the computer/wiring end of the EFI setup, but as far as the block and manifolds go, they're identical as far as I know.

I'll use as much off the 87 as i can ... unless for some reason some components (like intake or something) is better from the 95 ...

I thought 1987 was the first year where the manual transmission was a 5-speed. Is your 1987 an automatic? Just curious.

my 87 is a manual ... it's a 4 speed, with 3rd gear being the 1:! ratio and 4th being overdrive...

88 had the more conventional M5od ...

My 88' has a 4 speed in it also.

You could special order the 4spd transmission for quite some time after they were "discontinued". So, they were rare, but not uncommon. Lots of people knew how great they were, so they'd want them.
