Timing

Timing

Hey yall, 400 stroked engine never had much power since i got it so i finally got the distributor shaft unstuck to set timing...with no timing mark or light but with a vacuum gauge. I got it running good enough to spin tires without going dead. But this morning when I cranked it up it sounded mighty rough and bad. So I rammed the accelerator after it idled for a while and it popped and went dead. Do yall think I need to set idle mixture now that I reset the timing?

electric, i dont think they used points in '77 but u prolly know more than I do

easy way to tell 1.look under hood 2. driver side inner fender there will be a grey box held on by 2 screws. 3. if not sure see local mechanic

77 I hope it is solid state. When you cranked it did the starter drag or what? If it drug then it is too advanced. 400s usually had room to advance some from stock, I always set them around 10* and that helped. Advance until it drags starter or until it pings then retard immediately until minimal or no pinging and cranks good.
