Angry timing?

I'm installing a 1976 351W engine in my 85 bronco. The engine ran fine when I pulled it out. I put new seals and gaskets in it. The distributor is in correctly, but when I set the timing where it should be it runs rough. I have a vacuum gauge that tells you late ignition timing and late valve timing. I have to advance my distributor almost all the way to make the engine run smooth and then my vacuum gauge reads in the green(normal engine). My total advance is probably 30 degrees. The timing marks dont even come close to where they should be. ANY suggestions?

What is your advance at idle. 30 degrees total advance still sounds a little low to me. I am running around 36 degrees total, but the important one to look at is the idle setting when adjusting it. I am sure you have a vacuum advance so make sure the advance system is working right. You may have a bad diaphragm in it. The weights may be stuck in the distributor as well.
