15 mpg

I've got an FX4 dually CC with 3.73 gears and am getting 15mpg, and I'm not driving it hard at all. I see others posting 18-21, and am wondering if 4WD or DRW is making up that difference. Any other similarly configured owners care to report what they're getting?

Fuel economy in these things seems to be highly variable. Overall, I'm seeing about 17.5 mpg. Are you running a fuel additive? I'm running Stanadyne Performance Formula and notice it improves my fuel economy because it reduces the number of regens. Regens suck a lot of fuel, I think I get something like 10mpg during the regen and that usually lasts for about 10 minutes at highway speed.

I haven't used any additives yet. I only have around 1200 miles so far and have seen only one message for a regen. It went away quickly and I have no idea how long it took to complete. I still have a lot to learn on these things.

I love the truck so far, regardless of the mileage it gets. I've got a Fiesta for the economy. Bad thing is, I can't bring myself to drive it anymore

I can assure you that you've had several regens in 1200 miles, usually the first one is around 200 - 250 miles. It's very easy to miss the brief message on the message center.

I'm averaging about 17.5 with my dually and I drive with a light foot...Mine is a 2 wheel drive but I don't think that makes a lot of difference... I use the Motorcraft fuel additive and I don't seem to get many regens...

Recently I have been lucky to hit 17mpg daily driving - some city, mostly open country roads. F350 CCLB SRW 4x4 with a tonneu cover. I used to get around 18 for several thousand miles, then it started dropping off.

I have started using the Motorcraft PM22A fuel additive after the escapade thread with the blown up fuel pump. I also drain the water separator with EVERY TANK. Somewhere within each and every tank I let it drain off for a bit, not necessarily in the middle sometimes when I fill up, all depends on weather, my schedule, and if I am in a place where I can drop under the truck and knock it out.

The PM22A additive is 4oz/25 gallons. My tank is a bit over 30 and I use 5oz per fill up (usually between 26-29 gallons).

I hope this helps some.

Hi Rancher. What year is your Fiesta? I have a 1990 Festiva which Ford started making after the first round of Fiesta's in the '80's. I consistently get 44-48 mpg on my Festiva. It's a work car. Saves driving the dually daily.

Regarding the dually fuel mileage: I get around 17-19 on the highway when empty around 65 mph.

Maybe I missed it, but what color is your DRW?

Around town I get 12-14 mph.

On the highway with my 18k# 5er at 75 mph, I get 8.8-9.2 mph. If I slow down, it gets better. But I can't make myself slow down.

Well...403 miles and I'm seeing 13.9ish. Haven't used any additive yet. Only on second tank of fuel. I plan to use the Motorcraft Cetane Booster starting on the next tank. I don't expect much improvement at this point. 13-15 is respectable for this truck with a brand new engine.

IMHO...the issue here is the 3.73 gears your running. I think the 15mpg is really acceptable...and pretty good.

I understand you have a dually, however if you were running the 3.31 or 3.55 gears (if available in your config)...I believe you would have better mpg empty. But...towing you would take the hit.

For your application and setup...15mpg is about average...and might improve 1'ish as the engine breaks in proper.

On first tank i got 14,26 mpg now i'm on my second tank and i got 17 mpg and i had Motorcraft Cetane Booster on the second tank only. I had a lot off idles almost the same on both tank because it's pretty cold here, i have about 800 miles on it almost city driving whith a short hyway drive. I notice the first half of each tank use to drink less fuel then the second half.

These are no pulling whith 2012 CC DRW LB...just got my baby on December 27 and really love it.

Your not alone. I have a CC 4x4 drw and my last tank i averaged 14.4. Half highway half city driving. Best i've got so far is about 17 all highway. I run the ford additive. It cuts the regens way down. The regens will happen a lot when it's new, but it get better. I have 7000 miles on it now.

I have the same truck and I get 17-18 empty running 60-65. Towing a 12,000 pound trailer I get 11.3. I do not use any additive.
