what rear end to theses damn things have, i am shooting for fuel milage and i will never be pulling a 50ft trailer that weights 40,000 so i want to take out the 4:10 and go with a 3:50 - 3:73 gear, changing the gear, staying with the e4od and a rebuilt 6.9 turbo, i ought to be in the 25 to 30 mpg range based on my previos vehicle and setup

You'll never get 25-30mpg in these things...EVER.
We have a member on here with a F250 Supercab 2wd turbo 6.9/E4OD with 3.08's and he gets around 20-23mpg.
A direct bolt in deal would be finding an entire other axle to replace yours with, and stock gearing in these trucks were 3.55 and 4.10.

my 89 4X4 F-350 when new would get 20 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 55mph, with a banks turbo, no muffler, 4.10 gears, a ZF 5 speed, and 33 inch tires.
correcting for the oversize tires made the speed around 57-58 mph

IF you get the Sulfer Substitute and add it to the tank that increases the MPGs...I tried it and it worked great. BTW John....there are pumps all over MT that still pump the Diesel Number 1....I fill with that when I go on long trips because it increases mileage.

Luckey you, Diesel #2 everywhere in Canada, same for regular grade gas, all has 10% ethanol in it.

the 90 F-350 came with a sterling 10.25 rear axle.
if you can get the numbers off the axle tag, we will be able to decode it for you to let you know exactly what you have.
