Removing Emissions Control 86 F350 351W. HO Carbed
My truck is does not need to go through emissions here in CT. Does anyone have the step by step process of removing the emission control components? I may actually swap the whole intake manifold as I have an Edelbrock intake I'm not using.
I have a pretty good idea of what stays and what goes. But I wouldn't mind seeing it all written down first

Sounds like we have the same set-up, besides a 350 vs 150. When I bought my truck, one of the previous owners just plugged off the air injection passages in the heads and pulled the belt. Driving it for the first time, I noticed it was only running on seven cylinders. When I did the rebuild, found out they never re-jetted the carb, ran it lean and burned a hole in a piston.
What I did: Scrapped the whole intake, carb and all related parts. I put on a Weiand Stealth intake and an Edelbrock 1406 carb with electric choke. After a little adjusting on the choke, it runs like a top. I removed all vacuum lines associated with the emissions. I also cut the two fingers off the bracket that bolts up to the air pump, just made it look a little better.
If you plan on using the original carb, watch your plugs and re-jet as necessary. You want a nice cardboard brown look to them. For the exhaust valve, if you have one (in drivers side down tube) pull it out , cut the shaft, pull valve out and weld the shaft holes shut. It's just another one of those gadgets to get the engine temp up quicker.

That is probably because the carb needs rebuilt and it you need a tuneup. The only thing that draws engine power is the smog pump. If the Edelbrock is in working order then use it. You don't want to get rid of the PCV system, and it is best to keep the aircleaner and associated hoses for improved cold running and warmup. The egr is your choice. I would ditch it and go with a non egr intake.. but you can block it off. The vacuum advance needs to remain connected and functional.
