I'm doing a straight axle swap in my 1985 F150, using a 1979 Bronco Dana 44. 6" of lift. I have everything figured out except for the track bar... One friend said he used a stock F350 track bar, but that sounds like it would limit my flex. What would be the best thing to do for my project?
I have never done a solid axle swap on any vehicle originally equipped with ttb, but in any case the longer your track bar is the better, it needs to be parallel with your drag link.
I made mine out the original track bar and a peterbilt truck tie rod, but that is only because I had it laying around at the time... some DOM and heims are prime candidates for custom track bars.
I'm sure others will chime in with creative, or other proven (better (or not so better)) solutions.
1.5 x .250 DOM
1 LH and 1 RH 7/8 threaded inserts
1 LH and 1 RH 7/8 thread 3/4 body kevlar lined heims
Some angle and plate to build upper and lower mounts
Use a broom stick to measure angle and appropriate mounting locations. Driverside frame rail to passenger side axle tube and as close to parallel to the drag link as possible.
