Question Ignition Problems

I have an 85 F-150 with an 84 302. Well I just rebuilt the engine and got it running today, and decided I would take it for a test drive. When I was leaving, I hit a rough spot in the driveway and the engine died, and this is after letting it run at idle for about 2 hours.
Well anyway, I got to checking, and I wasn't getting any spark now The engine has a Mallory Uni-lite distributor and a Promaster coil. I got to checking my power leads, and I found a light power source on the - side of the coil so I took the power wire off and raked it across the + side of the battery and it arcs so now I have a ground. So any comments or any way of finding a ground would be greatly appreciated.

Thnks Alan

You found positive voltage on the ground wire ("light power source")? If you are just looking for a place to ground then do it directly to the block (where your negative battery cable should be attached).

BTW... It is very dangerous to create arcs right next to a battery, even the maintenance free ones have a possibility of explosion. If you want to see sparks just touch the exposed steel anywhere (away from the battery), that should all be grounded (or invest in a multimeter, even better).
