The plow would be pretty tough on the truck, if you got a fairly small one and didn't plow a whole lot I think it would be ok. Just be gentle, I wouldn't consider getting a plow unless you have a really long driveway or a small job to do.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
Actually a short bed is good for doing driveways (smaller turning radius) etc. A lot depends on what part of the country you are in (how much snow are you talking) However you really do punish the truck. The more you plow the more stuff is gonna break. If you are gonna buy a new one get a Fisher plow. The meyers and westerns don't hold up and aren't as well made.
hi there.....I live in northern Maine and plow with a '94 F150 supercab 4x4 5.0 with no problems. I'm not sure I would use a half ton truck for commercial plowing (roads and such), but driveways and parking lots are never a problem. Yes, it is hard on the front end and I would recommend installing heavy service front springs, but if you plow with the storm (very important) and take it easy, you should have no problems.

The most important thing is to NEVER let your friends try to plow snow with your truck. It may look like a neat thing to try, but it takes a while to get a feel for each vehicle and the way it reacts when plowing. Things can break and bend during plowing that would never snap during normal driving. I just sold my '75 F250 and plow and only replaced the clutch once in the 25 years that I had it. I live in the mountains of California (yes, we get heavy snow!) and the truck was used alot and only by me. I just bought a '92 F150 and am not going to put a plow on it based on the experience with the bigger truck. I guess I'll just be walk'in behind the snowblower more from now on. I'm going to miss being warm and listening to the tunes while moving snow this winter.
