Team, my truck is a 5 speed and I have a chelsea PTO unit on it. I have a few leaks around the PTO unit where it attaches to the tranny. I want to remove this and seal it up, any tips on doing this. What type of gear oil goes in this 5 sp.
Are you wanting to remove the PTO for good, or just re-seal it and re-install it. If you pull it for good, obviously you'll need a stock cover plate to take it's place. I'd go to any commercial truck / driveline type shop and they'll have a barrel full of those plates from puttin on new PTOs. If you pull it for good, I could use a back up for mine in case it croaks. Let me know if you want to get rid of it would you? Thanks, Jay
When you pull it off you may find it one or more gaskets on it. That is not a mistake. The gaskets are used to get the correct gear mesh between the pto and the gear in the trans. Just make sure you put the same thickness gasket back in. There are usually thicker and thinner gaskets too.

I was gonna point that out. Said gaskets may be causing the leak.
Finally THEWELLMAN comes through, that is what I want to do. I just want to pull it and reseal, I have a few leaks, from what I can see, I see no gasket just rtv of some type oozed out. I want to keep the pto. so I guess the unit gets the mercron from the tranny, cause I need to add some.
I got the same deal on mine. Not sure if it has the rtv or not. I just got a little seepage that's all so I will get around to it someday. Let me know if u run into anything odd. Thanks!!!
