upgrading from my old 99 cummins to a 2012 cc 350xl dually........ Have been reading and driving myself nuts for months old truck power train is as solid as can be but us northern guys know that time marches on and life in the north has taken its toll on the sheet metal cab mounts and frame on my very trusted and loved dodge truck. I have been reading on all the big 3 and have chosen to go ford, i have read the issues with the big 3 are having and have chosen to make my purchase a Ford. I am concerned with the fuel system and warrenty issues and have discussed them with my dealer not that i think it would make a difference. I will do my best to maintain it wirth additives and drain the seperator often and from there I guess I am at the mercy of fuel qaulity
Congrats, I made the same choice. Even after reading all the good/bad here as you did. It just needs to show up now.
I too am going to use additive and drain regularly. I am usually not this **** but I think I am going to keep a log of fueling (where/when/gallons and such).
Did you order or buying off the lot?
Off to the dealer lot to see if I can find any joy.
I agree I am far from **** on the same topics but i think i will do the same with logging fuel etc. It was off the lot at a different dealer quite aways away but they are going after it very reasonably..... I asked them to put a bottle of ford fuel treatment in it before they drive it off the other dealers lot. Truck is coming out of maine
You will absolutely love it. I upgraded to a 6.7 from the 6.0L and what a difference all over. My boss just bought a new Dodge mega cab Cummins, I was drooling but im a Ford guy so I didnt study the other brands. I love my quiet (very quiet) 2012 F350 and got a great deal on it and the trade. I learned something here a long time ago..ignore the negativity. I got scared reading posts here about my 6.0L. (Paranoid). I had not a single thing go wrong with that truck. We traded it for the comfort and quiet of the new one. Enjoy your new metal steed and trust the engineers are always working on improving it and want to keep you as a customer. The great thing about this forum is all the good inputs on DIY to improve your ride. I plan on maintaining (quality oil, draining water from fuel etc) a little more aggressive than the owner manual based on some paranoia (just a little) from a few reads, and my bet is i'll not have any problems just like my 6.0L F250. Enjoy! Mike
I keep all fuel receipts, document mileage and use PM22A.
I also keep maintenance records (oil changes, fuel filters, etc.).
Oil change samples are sent to blackstone.
My blackberry reminds me in the evening hours once per month to drain the DFCM.
Other than that, get out and drive that truck!
Ford wants you to vary your driving style for the first 500 miles anyways before they recommend you hook to something heavy.
Congratulations! I also went from the 6.0 to the 6.7 It took a while to get used to the differences. I'm comfortable with the blinkers and I have stopped trying to jam the ignition key into the old location.
I know you'll love the new rig. I have aluminum bed, underbed boxes and 60 gal RDS aluminum fuel tank. It all works great for me. The Pullrite Super 5th sets in a well in the bed, on top of heavy wall cross tubing which in turn sets on the frame. It sure works great pulling the 5th wheel.
It pulls the rig effortlessly, don't know what I'd do with more power. The engine is quiet and so far 10,000 miles without ever being at a dealer. I sure hope that trend continues. My heart goes out to the guys who have had BIG, EXPENSIVE problems. These things cost a fortune and there should be no serious problems. None.
My bed is a Hillsboro. I live 30 miles south of Wichita, Ks and these beds are made in Hillsboro, Ks. I talked with the people and their engineer at the plant. They designed the well and cover to hold the Pullrite Super 5th hitch. Very nice people to deal with. I don't know where you live, but Hillsboro has dealers in several states.
This company manufactures everything on site and they make beautiful aluminum beds, aluminum stock trailers and aluminum equipment trailers. They are masters in aluminum. There is a nice bed also made in Oregon. Also nice people but too far away from me to work with.
The guy that makes the aluminum underbed boxes is a true artist in aluminum and he is quite busy. The hinges are all enclosed and even have greas zerks on them.
Anyhow, you can contact me by email direct if I can be of any further assistance.
