In doing some research, it appears some recommend replacing the PCV valve as part of routine maintenance. But I don't see it listed in the maintenance manual. Did I miss it or is it something you replace when it breaks?
If you replace it as part of regular maintenance, how frequently?
Great question Onug----replacing the PCV is a remedy so often it probably does need a bit of explanation on testing it.
Unless I'm mistaken this device is a check valve of sort allowing any built up pressure in the valve covers to vent into intake stream but also stop that vacuum from sucking all the oil out. Gently forcing air through it from one side (blowing) should work while trying to pull air through the other side (sucking) shouldn't work. Any PCV that doesn't perform in this way needs to be replaced.
Be sure to check the line and factory elbow at the TB too---its been known to crack and cause all sorts of idle and running issues due the vacuum loss.
If any of this is incorrect I hope someone corrects me.
Thanks for the reply guys. I guess the only remaining question I have is about how frequently to replace the plug as part of normal preventative maintenance? So far my research is pointing to 60-70K miles.
