Suggestions on stereos

Had my OEM CD Player crap out on me tonight on my way home from work. Looking to up grade alittle, not looking to spend $400.00. What are some of the brands you guys have used for replacements? Oh my tape player hasn't played for years.

I'm going to be taking a working OEM CD-cassette player out of my 2001. I have another oem CD player that's been modded with an aux input that I plan to install, just haven't done it yet. PM me if you're interested in the CD/Cass.

Just put a Pioneer in mine last month. Wow!
Plays dvd's, SD cards, usb port on front.
Only drawback is the volume is push button, not rotary. These bouncy trucks will make your finger slip off the button.

you might check out crutchfields they will give you some options while looking, with no pressure to purchase excellent support before and after sale

I just bought and installed the 'ECLIPSE CD1200 double din' for 85 bucks on ebay. For the money its not bad. Has USB and AUX inputs which is all i wanted.

It does not fit into the 99 dash perfectly, i had to file down the edge of the inside dash with a dremel. Once I sanded down a mm or so, it slides in nice and tight. Even though our dashes look like a double din slot, they are not quite.

My OEM CD radio has also been acting up and I'm looking to replace it.

I have an older Alpine head unit. They were the first ones to come out with the iPod controller built in. I really like it but the radio receiver lacks. It has a hard time picking up the local stations. Reading the reviews I see that it is a common problem. I always listen to the iPod anyway,so it is no big deal to me. My point is, before you spend the bucks, read the reviews. X2 for Crutchfield btw

There's a guy on ebay who mods the oem stereos with aux inputs. The one I got was a nicer Mach mp3 one from a Mustang, but of course fits perfectly in the F350 slot. I like it because of the ergonomics seem better than the aftermarket ones - seems like buttons are hard to see and stuff like that. Plus, I believe I gained some wattage, at least over the base stereo.

I installed an Alpine that I pulled from my wife's truck (She needs bluetooth). The wireless remote makes it easier to reach.

I have a pioneer dvd player in my truck. I bought it maybe 4ish years ago, and was a little hesitant due to it being the cheapest dvd player (my wife got it for me as a gift).

Anyways the thing has been rock solid, doesnt skip dvd's, or cd's if they are scratched, or the road is bumpy or whatever, the sound coming from it just murders the stock 6 disc factory stereo my truck did have, and I didnt change the speakers or anything. I can pick up radio stations from cities over an hour away, as well as the local ones.

I cant say enough good things about this pioneer I have in my truck. Im not easily impressed, but it has impressed me, and then some. Ive had pioneer stereos back when I was in high school that werent that great, but this new one has made me switch my tune about them.

I bought a new ford single cd with SAT input online for a couple hundred and then added a module to convert the SAT input to aux for ipod. Works well, wanted to stick with the OEM look for now.

I like the back-up camera idea. I'd probably mount that so I could better see my hitch!

That JVC has a nice writeup on Crutchfield.

I went with a basic Sony Xplod since it has the USB and green illumination to kinda-sorta match the dash. Plus it was on sale cheap at the local Best Buy. It and new Kenwood speakers sound much better than the OEM units.
