Welcome to FTE Dorito
you got a first name?
Always sorry to hear bad news like this and sorry to hear your arrival here isn't timed with better events.
Too late for you on this gate I know, Dorito but speaking of the hose clamp idea; I recently ran across an actual lock out there that I have put on my list of things to buy. For those of us interested, I know Summit has a couple
There may be a few of us who have just been encouraged to try one of these here pretty quick.
I've got an old '99-'07 style just sitting out behind the house and it's a shame it can't help you. I hope you can find a replacement soon at a reasonable price. Best of luck.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go check my locks...
I got in contact with one of the guys who has the listing on Craigslist. He has a black talegate with all the options mine has..
Here's another idea for some others... Use a dremel or rotozip to engrave a small unique mark on the very inside of the tailgate so if you find the "same one" for sale, use that mark as reference for the police. Or just shoot the ******* your self.
Dealerships charge 100's if not in the 1,000's to do this but they do nearly the whole truck.

Right now mine is pretty recognizable, i was draining the blood off of some deer meat, the entire tailgate is covered in blood. LOL
The insurance adjuster comes out today to get me a qoute to fix it, hopefully i won't get taken to the cleaners on the deal.
Hey guys, sorry for the dely, I have been covered up at work like you wouldn't believe. Insurance cut me a check for $1600 within a few days of my claim, I found a local shop that could ge me one for what insurance gave me, so it didn't cost me anything out of pocket.
My first name is Dustin, but my friends call me Dorito.

Sounds like about as good as situations like this can go.
Better luck with this one, Dustin.
Also let us know if you come up with any other anti-theft ideas for this go-round.
I did install a lock that wraps around the hinge, it was $28 shipped off of Ebay. I am also in teh process of gettign a auto lock that will work with the key fob. They might steal this one too, but they are going to have to work for it .
I live in a small town just north of Houston, I have a 2010 F-250. I made a call to the dealership to see if it is even worth claiming on insurance, after about 45 minutes of adding he came up with $4700 without paint!!
Mine has the step and the camera in it. That PITA *** step is $1000.00 alone.
crime is all over texas! i went down there one time, it was a eye opener for sure. giddy up cowboy.
You didn't even look into the CL one? Curiosity is killer...
I did call about it, it seemed very shady, he had a white one listed but had the color I needed. After some thought I decided to just do the right thing and buy from a shop that is trust worthy. I don't think I would sleep well at night knowing I benefited from someone elses misfortune.
