help, the wires from my alternator arent hooked up to anything... (except the little green one, thats hooked up just fine) and i cant take any pics of the dammage. but i traced the harness and it is broken nasty right by the battery. i dont see where they go. apparently the 2 black and one yellow all go togather and go to the battery but i tryed that and it didnt fix the problem.
This would be a VERY opportune time to upgrade your fire-prone 2G alternator to a 3G. They are much better, more durable units with arguably better current output for the size and, as alluded to earlier, not so prone to starting underhood fires as are the 2G units.
Here's the schematic for a 88. Can't say the color of the
wires are the same for a 90 but the alternators should be
wired the same.
The three wires you speak of are spliced together to a
16 gauge fusible link. In the schematic it shows
two Black/Orange wires and a Yellow/White wire.
The wires are spliced to a 16 gauge fusible link.
The fusible link is attached to the same lug on
the starter relay where the positive battery cable
bolts to. There should be 4 other fusible links also
bolted to the same lug.
The mess you see is probably the melted fusible link.
You can purchase a new plug with pig tail wires
for the alternator end at most auto part stores such
as NAPA.
