I have a 07 F250 6.0L with the Banks Monster exhaust with the cat. Everything else with the engine is stock. I have been wanting to take the cat off and leave the Banks muffler but didn't know if it could damage the engine. Any Ideas?
I live in an county that doesn't require emissions testing. So I removed the cat. Made the turbo whistle louder. As far as how the removal affected the EBP or EGT, I don't have gauges to monitor that. I'm sure another user will chime in and have some before and after data.
i gutted mine, but left the pipe in.dont have an egt sensor but alot of guys say that with it gone it lowers temps.i did noticed the turbo spools faster though.the major thing i do notice is the cat hides alot of smoke.with it on it would only smoke at startup, with it off if im hunting, and driving slow alot, with low combustion temps it tends to smoke a little.
With my truck, I dropped 200F there about when the cat fell off one day. The state of AR doesn't do emissions testing...so unless the Feds show up some day to look at my truck; I'm ok for now. You won't cause any damage to the engine, and I seriously doubt the engine cares what the exhaust is doing once it exits the turbo.
This is a little off-topic, hope nobody is put off. I live in a smog state and cannot find a local shop to make me a custom CAT delete pipe. My initial plan was to gut the CAT, for off road use, of course. But, upon reflection have decided a CAT delete pipe is probably a smarter was to go. My problem is that I have a 4" CAT back system that is welded into the down stream side of the CAT. So, I need stock 3.5" ball connection to the stock down pipe (No, I am not interested in a 4" down pipe.) matted to a 4" pipe? Anyone have any suggestions where I might get this fabricated? Thanks and happy new year!

There are a ton of people running around without a cat. If you don't have emissions, ditch the thing. As said, it will lower EGTs and give you more turbo whistle. It won't hurt anything.

I would find a good custom exhaust shop and ask them to do the fab work. Take the piece and go home for the night. Show up the next day (or at a different shop) with your cat mysteriously missing (damn kids) and ask them to install the piece. When I used to want cats off my old gassers, shops wouldn't remove the emissions equipment, but if the truck showed up without it, they would weld up the exhaust...cause that's dangerous!

I have no CAT, see my signature, and as for the smoke I would think that mostly depends on what is going on with the truck, as I have no smoke comin outta my exhaust, ever.
oh and by the way i say, take the CAT off, I had the luxury of previously having a MRBP 4in exhuast setup without the CAT, and it sounded "nice", but decided to cut out the Muff, and go all straight. AWESOME!!! Is all that can discribe my feelings when the guy drove it out of the shop, and rev'd it up for me.
