Problematic truck

Having more problems with my 99 f250 super duty..... It has a constant small tick and now it starts clanging and knocking when you push it like going up hills etc... there's also a really strong smell of gas while it running and its throwing out a ton of exhaust. The rpms are a little high and it acts pretty gutless seperate problem??? Help please!!! I have barely had i t over a year and am going to get screwed if it comes to selling it or trading

A "really strong smell of gas" could possibly lead to an engine fire, so there's your first priority, to find the source.

Sounds like a bad injector or O2 sensor. And also is it diesel? You didn't say. Take it to a local Autozone or the like and have them pull the codes from the computer. Most of them do it for free and most for the time the codes are spot on whats wrong and needs replaced. And when you get the codes you can post them on here and we can help you out more.

Also, Your screen name won't win you any love here. lol Unless your referring to Chevy Chase Maryland http://www.townofchevychase.org/

It has to be assumed you have a gas modular motor cause, you said you smelled gas not fuel.
Constant tick and smell of gas; I would be checking for a loose spark plug. Plugs on 99 model year have had issues with being ejected. Open the hood and have a look see. Are all the plugs and coils still in place?
You may need to get it to a shop if you don't have the tools or knowledge or desire to do it yourself. I wouldn't drive it to much with the symptoms you describe.
Is your check engine light on.

I had a similar issue on my 99 V10. I replaced all 10 COP's and still had an issue. Turned out that one of the replaced coils was bad. The injector was working as it should and filling the cylinder with fuel. (The source of the smell and exhaust). There may be a code for a misfiring cylinder, but there may not be either. I initially threw a code for a misfire, this is what prompted me to change them all. Afterwards, no code. This drove me crazy until I had the truck checked by a Ford mechanic. If you do not have a code, try disconnecting your coils one at a time. If the engine sounds the same, you found the bad one. I would unplug the injector until you replace the coil.

Yes it is a gas engine. Just replaced a blown out spark plug. The check engine light has never come on. I'm also about ready to drop the front drive line and axle. Its getting to be pretty spend. I plan on taking it to a mechanic soon. As far as my user name lol afraid not I'm really a Chevy lover I've had nothing but issues with fords......

I've read on this forum about that similar issue happening due to an incorrect repair of the blown out plug. From what I've read, the plug won't sit far enough into the combustion chamber to properly burn the fuel/air mixture resulting in misfiring, unspent fuel (hence the gas smell) and throwing a few codes.

You can google it. It'll come back with lots of hits. There's also lots of kits that's supposed to fix them properly. Some are pretty pricey. I'm pretty concerned about this issue since I recently bout an 01 with a V10 in it. If I had the money I'd pull the motor and have the heads pre emptively repaired so there wouldn't be an "surprises" out on the road. I also read that the plug issue according to statistics only happens to 10% of all of the trucks produced with the triton motor.

Most of the info, sans some of the vendors repair kits sites I've gotten from this site.
