new guy here

happy new year everyone,
Ive been lurking on here a while so I thought I'd introduce myself.
my name is tony Im from decatur IL.
My father inlaw has a 53 1 ton flatbed and I recently went with him to look at a trailer a guy had. when we got there he was showing us around his barn and junkpiles.
this guy had a 52 and a 50 f1 along with tons of other old cars trucks and parts. I was climbing around some stuff looking at what seemed to be a very solid and complete 50 when he said he'd sell it for 2 grand.
it's been sitting in this pole barn for over 15 years he says thit flat head six ran when he got it and he has a spare to go with it. I wasn't looking for a project but I can't get the thing out of my head and checking out all the cool trucks on this site hasn't helped quell the urge to try and buy it so who knows? maybe this spring I'll head back out there.
great site you guys have here, giving me lots of ideas

Hi Tony,

Welcome to the forum! I don't think anybody here will try to talk you out of doing a truck project. If it was love at first sight...you should get back there and hammer out a deal!!

Well...give us all a rust report first...then hammer out a deal.

Dan

Welcome. And you're near by. I'm over in the Rochester area, and there are several more of us locally. A complete unhurt F-1 for that money isn't out of line. The "ran when parked" story is sometimes not to be believed, but getting it running is half the fun. Is this guy's place a genuine salvage yard, or is he just a guy with too much junk? Might you be able to share his location? Stu

Welcome to FTE. Man there seems to be more and more Illinois folk.
I would suggest taking a bunch of pictures and letting the experts here give you an idea of what would be involved in getting up and moving.

This is not the place to get talked out of a project, but guys here will let you know what you are in for. If people think it is not worth the money, I'm sure folk will find you one that would be good. We are a helpful bunch like that. Somehow we feel that the more people that have our sickness the better.

he was just a guy who never throws stuff away it seemed, he had an early fifties IH truck out side and several old chevy's most of his stuff is now chevy powered ( which I gave him some grief over. his daily driver is a ratted out chevy panel truck probably 52 ish he had a 56 chevy car and an old cab over I think it was a ford that he was in the process of turning into a long flatbed car hauler by using a motor home chassis and had bolted a chevy v8 behind the cab between the framerails, kind a hokey but may be cool if he finishes it. his other ford ( a 51 or 52 I forget) had an s-10 front end and engine
but the 50 seemed pretty unmolested, looked like a rattle can paint job from the 70"s and some junk piled on it so I couldn't get a real good look.
I kind of felt like the guys from American Pickers. if I get back out there I'll get more info on what he did have he mentioned wanting to sell a bunch of stuff and move one day but I got the feeling that was a pipe dream. he was like 70 yrs old with a ton of projects in the works

Any 1/2 ton that is in half way decent shape body wise should give you years of fun.

Do not resist - you are helpless to the power of old iron.

Go for it, man. It will be a great bonding experience with your FIL - and a built in yes from the boss.

You are already hooked. Give-in to the force. Take pictures and post them, get some feedback from the experts on this site, and go for it!

Welcome new guy from Decatur! I am from Pekin, just a couple hours north of you. If you are from Decatur then you have heard of ADM! I currently do subcontractor environmental work for ADM in Peoria. Smelly job, but a bunch of great people!

My wife and father and LOTS of friends and relatives work for ADM.
As for the sickness my first car was a 68 galaxy that I pulled out of a field and got running. I've owned several old fords but old as in 60's and 70's I sold my 68 cyclone last year and currently only have a 2000 mustang so I'm kinda itching for a toy but to do it I may have to sell the stang.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pics while I was there but if I go back I will definately do so

After you post 25 times you will be able to do Private Messages. I would be interested in a last name! for ADM reasons, just curious.
