mk,
I checked the frame rail and the vin codes match.I didnt have any luck finding the casting numbers on the block yet but im going to keep trying to find them. But I did get the numbers off the heads and intake.
The heads are C7AE-A.
Heads were Designed for a 67 Large Ford Car and applied to the 67 > 352,390,410 & 428 W/O air
Look in the oil Gallery of the heads for the actual Date casting codes
The intake has two numbers 6F21 6F21 = Cast June 21/1966
and C5AE9425C. Designed for a 1965 Large Ford car
The only thing I found on the block so far is the 352
From 352,360,,390 engines
Cars got 352's & 390's in them
Yet my castings book says it is a 391 4V for a Truck application
on the drivers side front with a 16 above it.
The carb on the truck looks to be a stock ford/Holley 4150.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got the block casting number. Its C7ME-A and it has a 4.05 bore. The pistons are dished with valve eyebrows. But I must be measuring the stroke wrong because It comes out at 4.13 and my book doesnt list a motor with that long of stroke.I am measuring the full lenth of the piston travel is that not the stroke?
I have been looking at this tread for a while now .
In my book Big block ford engines by Steve Christ I have found the following :
the only listing for C7ME-A is a 428 67-70
Now everyone who knows FE knows that the 428 has a 4.13'' bore so that isnt what you have !
I did find that the C7ME is listed as a FT block ( 4.05 bore)
Again the listing in my book is C7ME NOT C7ME-A
The only casting number that would really tell you what you have is the crank casting number : better yet this is even easier then pulling the oil pan .
: is your oil pump drive shaft 5/16-in or a 1/4-in ?
: the crankshaft nose diameter is larger on the FT engines : 1.750-in -- where as the FE's nose is 1.375
The longest STOCK stroke you are going to get out of a FE is 3.98 and 3.79 out of a FT !
I dont think you have a FT ( just like everyone else says)
I get the same as you "F" in this book is 391 4V
I know this book doesnt have 100% correct information but who knows !
Thanks Jon,
Thats the book I have been using.Im not sure of the oil pump shaft dia. because when I pulled the distributor the shaft fell into the pan (bummer). Do you know if the pan can be removed without having to lift the block up will the pan clear the crossmember?
I thouht I had this figured out when I got the C7ME-A Block number sence the heads and intake could have came from a 428 untill I measured the bore.
I think to make your life easier you should jack the engine up and put a 2x4 under each motor mount then remove the oil pan .
Once the pan is unbolted unbolt the oil pump and let it fall in the oil pan THEN the pan should slide right out .
While you are under there write down the casting numbers on the crank , and for the added piece of mind put a new oil pump on your engine .
check out the oil pump drive shaft if it looks worn replace that too.
Be sure to post back if you need help and post those casting numbers this is really interesting !
I managed to fish the oil pump shaft out without having to drop the pan. I was lucky and it hadnt fell all the way in. It is the 1/4" shaft. Also figured out what I was doing wrong measuring the stroke. (measuring to bottom of dish) . So now I know that what I have In the truck is a 390. Im still kinda wondering about the "F" engine code in the VIN number but it does not really matter now that I know whats in there now. Thanks guys for all your help and input.
