Turbo Output

Hi All,
I've been away for a while, but am finally home for a while. Hope all is well with everyone. Have a quick question...

With Mods listed in my Sig, is it possible to be pushing 25+ Boost numbers when WOT? This is a Cali Model. I was having a discussion with a Muffler shop owner (has a new '10 F350) who is big on Banks systems and he claims my Boost sensor is not reading correctly. I wasn't sure that was possible since it picks up actual pressure out of the MAP Line. He claims I should only be able to get 10 to 15 MAX without upgrading to a full kit (IC, Chip, Exhaust, Larger Turbo, Stage 1+, etc) with our trucks.

Anyone have any hard info I can prove him wrong with or do I need to send my gauge back to ISSPRO for a new one? I don't have anyone near me to put another gauge in for a test. What should I do?

Thanks!

I'd say he is full of crap. He either 1- wants to sell you something, or 2- doesn't realize that you have a Cali model with split shot 120cc injectors in it. I think 25 PSI sounds fairly reasonable. 10-15 PSI is about what to expect from a stock OBS Fed model with 90cc sticks, but you're spraying more fuel than that with a Cali model.

Totally agree with Nate. I can get 20 PSI at WOT with my mods and not a Cali model.

Yea, I am guessing he was looking to sell me something. He also said he can only get 15 - 20 max with his new truck and a larger turbo (full banks kit of course).

He is just jealous he doesn't have a 7.3... LOL!!!

Not sure what you are calling a wicked wheel, that's what they install in the 99 and up 7.3s to stop turbo surge and is pretty much our stock compressor wheel. You either have fuel deliver issues, exhaust leak somewhere between engine and turbo, somethings not right with the turbo or compressed air leak between turbo and intakes. If you don't have a chip I don't believe you would see much more than 17 psi.

With my mods I can hit 25 psi all day long and if conditions are just right (long steep hill turning over 3000 rpms with a load) get 28-29 psi with stock injectors albeit they are probably pretty worn out.

My 22 psi is without a chip. I did have the EBPV gutted, downpipe, no cat and no muffler though. The gutted EBPV and downpipe made a HUGE difference. I noticed a large difference in feel with the air filter, but I don't have they gauge now. 22 psi is @ like 2800+ rpm in 3 gear or with a heavy load. Normally could hit 18 psi without much effort.
With a chip 25 psi should be easy to do.

ROENTGEEP, I think you must have some sort of exhaust or boost leak.

Maybe you are right. Talking about the exhaust where are the places for a possible leak?

the collector behind the turbo is a classic place for exhaust leaks take a flash light and look behind the engine from underneath look at the top part of the pipes and the firewall for soot it there is soot on the pipes thats where u have a leak

The 4 bolt flange that the turbo bolts to has a gasket between them. I found part of the gasket missing when I pulled mine to change turbos.

I havent seen any soot there, I only have seen soot in the union of the middle of the down pipe but no to much, does that could cause low boost?
In other hand I have noticed that if I put some pressure in the intake, lets see 15-20 PSI with a cap in the intake (I made a tester following the write ups here) the pressure doesnt hold, it quickly goes down, but trying to mainteining the pressure and adding soap water from every where (plennums, turbo boots, etc), I cant find any noticeable leak. I really dont know what happen.
Thanks for the input and sorry if this thread was , but maybe its all related with the OP. IDK
