460 intake manifold seals

I've tried several methods of sealing intake manifold ends in the past and I'm not convinced of the best way. What are your opinions? Use the rubber seals, only silicone, both,..... what?

Personally I like black RTV only. You have a seal or you don't. No questions asked.

The only way to seal intake ends is to use black silicone sealer. I have tried many different gaskets and sealers and the only way to ensure a positive good seal is the silicone method.

I just replaced my lifters this weekend and had to reseal the minifold. While I took the cheap way out and reused the gaskets, I have no oil leaks anywhere. My Haynes book says to seal the ends of the rubber end gaskets with RTV. I also put a small bead along the top and bottom of them for good measure.

So far so good.

I've never had any trouble using the 'stock' black rubber end seals. Even installing them dry with RTV in the corners they never leak.

Now the cork ones leak darn near every time, even with RTV.
