Fuel system click

A few people here said they’re bored.
So, time for some pointless learning (at least for me).

What causes this fuel system related click at 0:12?
Is something opening or closing?
It comes from under the cab of the truck.
Camera was on top of the degas bottle so it’s loud.

Just a guess...intake throttle valve or EGR cycling.

Are you sure it's coming from underneath the cab and not the engine compartment?

It could be the low pressure fuel pump kicking on maybe.

I just went out in the garage and tried this. Sitting on the driver seat with the dooropen,I turned on the ignition and listened. 10 seconds later I heard a very similar click from under the truck in the vicinity of the DFCM. I tried to repeat a second time but no sound.

You have to wait about a half hour to repeat the noise (just figured that out).
The sound is actually louder near the DEF tank now that I've jumped from the cab to listen.
So, further back than I thought.

That squeak you hear at the beginning of my recording does come from the engine compartment but this noise is near the rear of the truck.

Edit: I should say, I waited about a half hour. It could take 5 minutes.

Can't bring myself to crawl in the mud and listen for said sound, just now, but could it be that the volume is too low on your stereo system?

Happy New Year!

That's a tough one, kper! I know that the DEF system does a few complex things around this time though. When the truck is shut down it draws all the fluid out from the lines to prevent freezing, and therefore once you start the truck it has to pressurize the lines. There is an injector at the end of the circuit as well as a pressure sensor involved.

Perhaps it has to do with the DEF line filling?
